MEDFORD – What a crazy week for Tufts Athletics it is, with so much action going on with our Jumbo teams on break.  Here is our spring break edition of This Week In Tufts Athletics!

Men's Lacrosse

 



Whats up this week:

Tuesday at Stevenson at 7 pm
Saturday vs. Trinity at 1 pm

What you need to know: With a 5-0 start the men’s lacrosse team is off to a hot start.  The Jumbos topped Colby, 10-7, on the road this past week, with the ten goals being their lowest offensive output this season.  With two games on the schedule for the week, the Jumbos will look to improve to a perfect 7-0 and 3-0 in NESCAC play.

Women's Lacrosse





Whats up this week:

Wednesday at Castleton at 4 pm
Saturday at Trinity at 12 pm

What you need to know: After a late comeback fell short this past weekend at Colby, the women’s lacrosse team will look to rebound this week with a contest at Castleton on Wednesday afternoon.  The Jumbos will then travel to take on the Bantams, who are ranked No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll, on Saturday.

Baseball

Saturday at Apprentice School at 1 pm
Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan at 12 pm

What you need to know: The Jumbos have started off the 2017 season right where they left off in 2016.  With two strong starts from Speros Varinos and Tim Superko the Jumbos have gotten strong starting pitching.  They have scored 40 runs through three games so far this trip, so hopefully the Jumbo bats will stay hot this week in Virginia where the weather hasn’t been so hot.

What you need to know: It’s a busy week for the Jumbos down in Florida with 14 games during spring break.  The Jumbos have started 2-2 so far, picking up wins over Plymouth State and Buffalo State, and falling to No. 8 Linfield and Clarkson.  Senior Maggie Hoffman is hitting an unreal .909 through the first four games for the Jumbos, who have hit six homeruns in their first four games this year.  On Monday the Jumbos take on No. 16 St. Catherine and on Thursday the Jumbos will look to knock off No. 5 Luther.

What’s up this week:


Monday vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 am
Tuesday vs. Chicago at 12:30 pm
Wednesday vs. Colby at 12 pm
Friday at Pomona-Pitzer at 4 pm

What you need to know: The men’s tennis team is in California for spring break with six matches during their trip.  The Jumbos started the season with a 6-3 win over Point Loma and will look to keep that going this week against some good competition.  The Jumbos were ranked No. 14 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll, with Chicago sitting at No. 5 and Pomona-Pitzer being ranked No. 9. Colby is ranked No. 37 and Wisconsin-Whitewater is No. 24.

What’s up this week:

Wednesday vs. Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9 am
Friday vs. Pomona-Pitzer at 7 pm

What you need to know: The women’s tennis team is out in sunny California for their spring break trip and will play four matches out there during the week.  The Jumbos started the trip with an 8-1 win over Oberlin on Sunday.  The Jumbos were ranked No. 12 in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association national poll. Wisconsin-Whitewater is ranked No. 21 and Pomona-Pitzer is ranked No. 4.

Women's Sailing





What’s up this week:


Saturday and Sunday Duplin Trophy at Tufts at 10:30 am both days

What you need to know: The women’s sailing team opened up their spring portion of their schedule by finishing in 8th place at the St. Mary’s Inter-conference this past weekend.  The Jumbos will hope for some warm weather this weekend as they will host the Duplin Trophy at home.

Coed Sailing





What’s up this week:


Saturday and Sunday at Friis Trophy Team Race at Coast Guard at 10:30 am

What you need to know: The coed sailing team opened their spring schedule this past weekend as well, taking eighth place at the Graham Hall Team Race at Navy.  This weekend the Jumbos will hope the weather warms a bit as they travel to Coast Guard for the Friis Trophy Team Race.




 






 

Kingsley Bowen, Sophomore, Men’s Swimming and Diving

Sophomore Kingsley Bowen had a strong showing this past week at the Men’s Swimming and Diving Division III Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.  Bowen was recognized as an All-American for finishing in the top eight in three individual events as well helping in some relays.  Bowen was third in the 200-yard backstroke with a program record 1:46.33, sixth in the 100 backstroke with a 48.99 and sixth in the 100 butterfly with a program record 48.47. Bowen was also involved in the 400 free relay, which took home 11th place and honorable mention All-American honors, and the 800 free relay which finished eighth for All-American honors.  The Jumbos finished 10th overall as a team.

 

 

Maggie Hoffman, Senior, Softball

Senior Maggie Hoffman started her senior year off on fire.  Literally. Hoffman is 10-for-11 through the Jumbos first four games and is hitting .909.  The senior outfielder started her year with a 2-for-3 with one RBI showing against No. 8 Linfield on Saturday. She then went 8-for-8 in two games on Sunday. She was 4-for-4 with three RBI and a homerun against Buffalo State.  She then finished the day going 4-for-4 in a loss to Clarkson. Hoffman has hit three doubles and a homerun for a 1.455 slugging percentage through four games for the Jumbos.
