Gilchrist is NESCAC's Pitcher of the Week After Shutout in Final Career Start on Sunday

MEDFORD - Senior pitcher Kevin Gilchrist (Medford, MA) enjoyed a fine finish to his career with the Tufts baseball team. He pitched a no-hitter against UMass Darmouth on April 16, and then on Sunday hurled a shutout that has earned him this week's NESCAC Pitcher of the Week award.

With the NESCAC regular-season in its final weekend, Gilchrist made the last start of his college career in the second game of a double-header against Middlebury College on Sunday. He pitched all seven innings of a 6-0 win, improving to 4-2 for the year by allowing just six hits and no walks while striking out five.

In the top of the fourth, Middlebury had the bases loaded with one out. However, Gilchrist got out of the jam with a 6-4-3 double-play ball. Otherwise, only one Panther batter touched second base against him. He finished with a flourish, retiring the final seven batters including the last two by strikeout.

Gilchrist is Tufts' first NESCAC Pitcher of the Week of the season. Senior Matt Colins (Hopkinton, MA) and junior Eric Weikert (Avondale Estates, GA) were named Player of the Week on April 23 and April 2, respectively. This is the second NESCAC weekly honor for Gilchrist, who was also the recipient as a sophomore on April 26, 2010.

In 36.2 innings this spring, Gilchrist finished with a 3.44 earned run average, 24 strikeouts and a .232 batting average against.
