MEDFORD – Freshman 1B Kyle Brennan doubled to right field and scored the go-ahead in the eighth inning and the visiting Endicott College Gulls went on a to a 6-4 non-league win at Tufts in college baseball action Thursday at Huskins Field.

The Gulls had tied the game at 4-4 with two outs in the seventh inning as junior CF Dan Cacciola had a bunt single, stole second and scored on a well-placed pop fly single to right by senior RF Brad Rebello. In the top of the eighth, Brennan doubled to the wall in right, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly by freshman SS Matthew McKinley.
Tufts senior 3B Tommy O'Hara hit a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth, but he was stranded by Gulls senior reliever Victor Molle. In the ninth, Cacciola added an insurance run when he hit a lead off single and scored when the Gulls executed their second double steal o the game. Jumbo freshman pinch-hitter Ryan Daues doubled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and sophomore CF Justin Mills followed with a single to put the potential tying runs on base against Endicott closer Will Bryant. However, Brenner and Bryant executed a nice 3-1 put-out to end the game.
Endicott earned their 20th win of the season (20-11) and won their third in a row. The Jumbos (15-13), led by O'Hara at 2 for 4 with two rbis, dropped their third straight.
The visitors scored three times unearned in the top of the first inning off Tufts freshman starter Manny Ray. Senior 2B Michael DeDonato doubled home a run and scored on a double steal with Brennan in the frame.
Tufts tied the game in the third as O'Hara hit an opposite-field triple down the line in left to score two. He then scored to tie the game 3-3 on a single through the left side by junior DH John Moschella.
Ray retired eight straight from the second through fourth innings and then stranded Gulls on second and third in the fifth and pitched a 1-2-3 sixth. Endicott starter Jacob Thibault went four innings allowing fivce hits and four runs (three earned).
DeDonato was 2 for 5 for Endicott with two doubles, two stolen bases, a run and an rbi. Cacciola went 2 for 3, stole three bases and scored twice, while Brennan also scored twice. The Gulls used six pitchers with sophomore Alexander Zaiser earning the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Bryant secured his 10th save.
Mills had a pair of hits and scored a run for Tufts. Ray (8 IP, 6 H, 3 ER) took the loss.
The Jumbos play an important three-game NESCAC East series at Bates this weekend. The Gulls play a Commonwealth Coast Conference pair at Eastern Nazarene tomorrow.
