MEDFORD - In recognition of a season where he recorded 9.5 sacks in eight games, Tufts University senior defensive lineman Micah Adickes was selected to the 2017 D3football.com All-East Region second team on Tuesday.
Adickes is one of just three players from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) named to the top two D3football.com All-East teams. Three teams were named in all, featuring four NESCAC players in total. Adickes and Amherst College defensive lineman Andrew Yamin, the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, are the only two defensive players from the league on the three All-East teams.
Including his team-high 9.5 sacks (second in NESCAC), Adickes made 16 tackles for losses which led the team and was second in the league as well. He finished with 32 total tackles (23 solo), recovered a fumble and broke up a pass along the way. His 9.5 sacks were the most by a Jumbo since George Lawrence was credited with 10 in 1991.
Adickes opened the 2017 season with two sacks in a 35-28 Jumbo win over Hamilton College on September 16. He would get two sacks again in the Jumbos' 21-13 victory at Williams College on October 21. His season-high of 3.5 tackles for losses of 15 yards came against Trinity on October 14 and he had three TFL's (13 yards) at Wesleyan on September 23.
"Micah has a great first step, is very athletic and has a great combination of size and speed," said Tufts head coach Jay Civetti. "He was one of the best in the league at this position for three years."
An All-NESCAC first team pick this fall, he was a second team pick in the conference for both 2015 and 2016.
Adickes finishes his Jumbo career with 19.5 sacks and 27.5 tackles for losses. He is the first Jumbo defensive lineman to earn a D3football All-East Region honor since Chris Decembrele in 2006.
