#13 Field Hockey Scores Seven More Goals In NESCAC Win At Bates College

Lia Sagerman capped a five-goal weekend with three today

LEWISTON, ME - No. 13 nationally ranked Tufts University turned a 2-0 halftime lead into a 5-0 second-half lead, en route to a 7-1 defeat of the Bates field hockey team on Sunday afternoon at Campus Avenue Field.

Lia Sagerman (LaJolla, CA) scored three goals, all in the second half, for the Jumbos (10-2, 6-2 NESCAC), who won their fifth straight game. Sagerman assumed the team lead in scoring, now with 10 goals. Kayla Murphy (Pawcatuck, CT) added a pair of goals, her second and third this season. Chelsea Yogerst (San Diego, CA) and Missy Karp (Berwyn, PA) recorded two assists apiece. Brittany Norfleet (Solana Beach, CA) posted a goal and an assist. The Jumbos have now scored 27 goals in their last four games.

Lexie Carter scored Bates' goal on a penalty corner, assisted by Kelly McManus after Polly Merck's insertion. Jillian Conway, pressed into goalkeeping duties due to injuries to both goalies on Bates' roster, made 17 saves in the game.

Mariana Zak (Concord, MA) played the entire game in goal for Tufts, but went without a save. Tufts back Emily Cannon (Atkinson, NH), however, made a defensive save on a shot by Kelly McManus in the opening minutes of the game that was headed for the left side of the Jumbo goal.

Murphy got the Jumbos on the board after the first 17 minutes of the game went scoreless, tipping in a shot by Karp that traveled toward the goal from a tough angle on the right.
Lindsay Griffith's (Wilmington, DE) goal made it 2-0 with 2:14 left in the first half, after Rachel Gerhardt (Worcester, MA) passed it to her across the outside edge of the semi-circle on a penalty corner.

The Jumbos outshot the Bobcats by a 44-5 margin and had 13 penalty corners to Bates' three.
