|Justin Feldman shot in the 70s both days|
NORTH DARTMOUTH – The Tufts University golf team finished seventh out of 18 teams in its first event of the spring season at the Hampton Inn Collegiate Invite hosted by UMass-Dartmouth.
The two-day tournament was played at the par-72 Allendale Country Club. After shooting a combined 309 on Friday to stand fifth after one day, the Jumbos slipped to 323 strokes on Saturday and ended up seventh.
Tufts' 632 total score was seven behind sixth-place Salem State University (625) and one in front of eighth-place Endicott (633). Trinity College won the tournament with a 606 team score.
Sophomore Brandon Karr led the Jumbos on both days. After an opening-round 73 on Friday, he shot 78 on Saturday for a two-day 151 which placed fifth individually. He was seven over par for the weekend.
Junior Justin Feldman shot two sub-80 rounds for Tufts, including a 79 on Saturday. His tournament total of 157 strokes tied for 23rd.
Also scoring for Tufts on Saturday was junior Brian Creonte with an 82 and freshman Alex Honigford at 84. Creonte, who scored both days for the Jumbos, had two-day 163 while Honigford scored 170 for the tournament. Senior Aaron Corn, who shot 77 on Friday, had an 89 on Saturday for a 166 total.
Austin Cilley from Rhode Island College won medalist honors with a 69-77-146.
Tufts plays at Johnson & Wales' Wildcat Spring Invitational next weekend (Apr. 21-22).
