MEDFORD - Tufts University junior Gavin Tasker has been selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA), which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Tasker is among 12 players selected to the Division III team in District I, which represents schools in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. He is one of three players from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) on the Academic All-District I list.
A right midfielder, Tasker has started 14 of 16 games for head coach Josh Shapiro's Tufts team which enters the NCAA Tournament this weekend undefeated (13-0-3). He is second on the Jumbos in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. The Jumbos are #1 in New England and #2 nationally according to the United Soccer Coaches polls.
Tasker has been a leading offensive contributor to the Jumbos since he arrived on campus. He finished second in scoring (4-3-11) for the 2017 NESCAC Championship and NCAA Quarterfinal team. A starter in all three seasons, he played every game as a freshman for the 2016 NCAA Championship team and recorded three goals with one assist for seven points. In 57 career games, he's scored 11 goals with six assists for 28 points.
In the classroom, Tasker will have earned NESCAC All-Academic Team honors in all three seasons (this year's team has been released yet). A double major, he is pursing a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Economics and Environmental Science. He has achieved Dean's List grades in all four semesters he has been at Tufts. Last summer he participated in the highly-selective Tuck Business Bridge Program at the Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business. From Lincoln, Mass., he worked as a summer intern in economics for the Eastern Research Group - an Environmental Consulting Company in Lexington, Mass.
Tasker is also on the Tufts men's track & field team, contributing to the 2017 and 2018 New England Indoor Championships won by the Jumbos.
Including 2017 recipients Dexter Eichhorst and Kevin Halliday, Tufts Men's Soccer has had three players receive the Academic All-District® honor in the last two seasons.
