Six Jumbos Come Home as All-Americans from NCAA Men's Track & Field Indoor Championships

Jeff Marvel had the best finish for Tufts at the 2012 NCAA's

GRINNELL, IA - Six members of the Tufts men's indoor track & field team are All-Americans after their performances at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Championships this weekend. Tufts was 16th as a team with 11 points through 13 events, with two remaining. Their team finish will be updated after the conclusion of the meet.

The Jumbo All-Amerians are sophomore Bobby McShane (Mansfield, MA), sophomore Graham Beutler (Weston, CT), senior Connor Rose (Irvine, CA) and junior Matt Rand (Cape Elizabeth, ME) from the distance medley relay (DMR). Rose doubled as an All-American in the mile on Saturday. Junior Gbola Ajayi (Lagos, Nigeria) earned his national recognition in the triple jump on Saturday, while junior Jeff Marvel (Naples, FL) capped the weekend with his All-American 800-meter run on Saturday.

The DMR ran a 10:18.59 time that placed eighth on Friday. The top eight earn All-American honors. Rand earned the third All-American citation of his collegiate running career, with the previous two coming at the outdoor and cross country NCAA's. The national honor is the first for the others.

Rose would soon add his second All-American award in the mile run. He had qualified fifth in the mile prelims on Friday with a 4:13.59 time. He ran 4:15.85 in the final to place sixth.

Marvel followed a similar path at the NCAA's. He ran fourth in the 800 preliminaries with a 1:53.52 time on Friday, making him one of eight in the final on Saturday. He came through with a 1:54.32 to take fifth in the 800 final, which was the highest finish of the weekend for the Jumbos.

Also on Saturday, Ajayi went 48'4" (14.73m) in the triple jump for sixth in the country.

Junior Curtis Yancy (St. Louis, MO) was also in action for Tufts on Friday, but fouled on each of his weight throw attempts to finish 13th.
