|Baptista led Tufts with 15 points and 10 rebounds.|
The Jumbos (13-2, 2-1 NESCAC) who trailed the Ephs (9-6, 1-2 NESCAC) by six at halftime, used a strong second half to secure the victory.
Melissa Baptista (15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, four blocks) and Erica DeCandido (12 points, 11 rebounds) each had a double-double. Jac Knapp (11 points, two assists) hit a pair of big shots down the stretch to give Tufts the win.
After DeCandido hit a free throw, the Jumbos led 37-36 with five minutes to play in the game. On their next possession, Knapp sunk a three-pointer off a feed from Lauren Dillon to go up by four.
Maggie Meehan and Kristin Fechtelkotte both made buckets for the Ephs, causing the Jumbo lead to shrink back to one. But Knapp had an answer again as she hit another one from beyond the arc to go back up by four with two minutes remaining.
The Jumbos ran out the rest of the clock, adding a jumper and two free throws by DeCandido to ice the game and start the weekend off with the seven-point win.
Fechtelkotte led Wiliams with 12 points and Meehan chipped in with 11.
Tufts started the second half on a 9-0 run off of buckets from Emily Briggs, Knapp, and Baptista to take a three-point lead. The Ephs called a timeout and responded by keeping pace with the Jumbos for the rest of the quarter.
The first half was a bit rockier for Tufts, who got outscored 13-5 in the second quarter. Nevertheless, they only trailed by six at the break.
The Jumbos play at home again tomorrow against Middlebury at 3 p.m. Williams will travel to Bates.
