Baptista Named to D3hoops Women's Basketball All-America Third Team

MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior Melissa Baptista of the Tufts University women's basketball team capped off her season by being named a D3hoops.com All-American for the second year in a row, as announced on March 17.

This is the 21st annual iteration of the national awards that are chosen by the D3hoops staff. Four teams are chosen as well as a group of honorable mentions. Baptista was named to the third team. She was also on the third team last year as a junior. Baptista is one of only two New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) players to be selected to the first three teams.

Baptista has certainly left her mark on the Jumbo record books, finishing her career third overall in points (1,337), third in blocks (198), and fifth in rebounds (635). She led Tufts this year with 13.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. She was also third on the team in steals with 1.6 per contest.

This award is another in a large collection that Baptista has received for her play in her senior season. She was named NESCAC Player of the Week twice, to the All-NESCAC first team, the All-Northeast Region first team, and a WBCA All-American.

In Baptista's time as a Jumbo, the team has gone 114-15, advanced to three final fours and two NCAA Championship games. This season, the squad finished at 26-5 with a trip to the Elite Eight.
