Women's Fencing Earns Two Wins in Competition at Boston College on Saturday

Katharine Lynch won 10 bouts in epee matches

CHESTNUT HILL - The Tufts women's fencing team won two of its six matches at a NFC meet hosted by Boston College on Saturday.

The Jumbos had an 18-9 victory against Smith and 15-12 win versus Dartmouth. The losses came against Brown (20-7), MIT (17-10), Vassar (15-2) and Brandeis (15-12).

The Tufts win against Smith featured both the epee and sabre squads winning all of their nine matches. Exact results of the Dartmouth bout were not available. Of the seven wins versus Dartmouth, five came from epee. Both epee and sabre posted four wins each in the MIT match. The Jumbo sabre squad had an 8-1 record against Vassar. Sabre also led the way against Brandeis with six wins.

Overall for the day, the sabre fencers earned 29 victories not including the Dartmouth match. Epee also won more than they lost with a 26-19 record for the day.

Individually, epee first-year Katharine Lynch (Centereach, NY), sabre sophomore Julia Hisey (Carlisle, MA) and sabre senior Sarah Danly (Potomac, MD) all had 10 wins. Epee junior Abigail Hepworth (Garden City, NY) won nine times.

The Jumbos compete next at Brandeis on Saturday.
