Women's Sailing Narrowly Misses National Semi-final Berth With Eighth-Place at New England's
DORCHESTER - The Tufts women's sailing team finished eighth out of 17 teams at the New England Dinghy Championship hosted by Boston College on Saturday and Sunday. The Jumbos narrowly missed earning a berth into the national semi-finals, which went to the top seven at the regatta.
Harvard secured the seventh and final New England berth into the national semis with a 271 score. Tufts' score was 297, with their finishes in 17 races totaling 118 in A's and 179 in B's. Host Boston College won the regional championship with a 97 score.
Tufts placed sixth in the A Division, skippered by junior Natalie Salk (Providence, RI). Crews Ameliia Quinn (Amherst, MA) and Sara Makaretz (Yarmouth, ME) split the 17 races, with Quinn on board for the first through sixth and 13th through 17th. A third place in the last race of the weekend was their best performance.
The B Division boat was skippered by junior Mariel Marchand (Barnstable, MA). Sophomore Polly Murray (Cohasset, MA) was crew for the first and second and seventh through 14th races. Sophomore Julie Pringle (Vineyard Haven, MA) took over for the third through sixth races and Makaretz handled the duties for the 15th through 17th outings. The B's had runner-up races in the fourth and 16th starts.
