Women's Sailing 7th at Annual Stu Nelson Trophy

Molly Pleskus skippered the B division boat for Tufts

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Tufts University women's sailing team earned seventh place out of 18 teams at the annual Stu Nelson Trophy hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday and Sunday.

In two divisions consisting of 12 races apiece, the Jumbos had finishes totaling to 109 in A division and 97 in B division for a 206 final score. They were 14 behind sixth-place Rhode Island (192) and seven ahead of eighth-place Harvard (213). Brown won the regatta with an 80-56-136 scoring line.

The Tufts B dinghy placed eighth in their division. Junior skipper Molly Pleskus sailed with sophomore crew Sabrina van Mell. The Jumbos won the third race, were the runner-up in the seventh start and took third in the 12th and final race.

For A's, senior MaryClaire Kiernan skippered with senior crew Julia Fuller. They were 10th in the division, including a fourth-place finish in the 11th start.

On Saturday, the breeze came in at 11 am and built to 8-12 knots straight up the Thames River. The wind was light early on Sunday. It picked up to 4-8 knots out of the WSW. As the day went on it built to 7-10 from the WSW. The day finished with a SW breeze for the Lat few Races.
