NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Jumbo women's sailing team raced to a 12th-place finish at the 15-team Victorian Coffee Urn regatta hosted by Coast Guard on Saturday and Sunday.

In 12 races across two divisions, the Jumbos compiled scores of 111 in A's and 104 in B's for a 215 total. They were two behing 11th-place Roger Williams (213) and four in front of 13th-place Vermont (219). Yale won the regatta with a 43-81-124 scoring line.

Senior MaryClaire Kiernan skippered in A division for the Jumbos along with classmate Julia Fuller as crew. The Tufts pair was 11th in the division, taking a head-to-head tie-breaker over Roger Williams. Tufts had a best finish of second in the fourth A division race.

The Tufts B team was 12th in its division. Junior Molly Pleskus skippered all  12 races. Sophomore Sabrina van Mell crewed for the first through fourth as well as the seventh and eighth races. Senior Natalie Danziger stepped in as crew for the fifth and sixth along with the ninth through 12th starts.

Saturday was a fantastic day of racing in a southwest breeze ranging from 8-12 knots. Sunday proved to be a bit more challenging as the breeze struggled to fill consistently, warranting many abandoned races and sequences. One race was completed in a northwesterly. The remaining races were sailed in a southerly ranging from 6-8 knots.
