Women's Sailing Places Eighth at Coast Guard's Emily Wick Trophy

Julia Fuller crewed the A division races for Tufts

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Tufts University women's sailing team finished eighth out of 20 teams at the Emily Wick Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday and Sunday.

The Jumbos had senior skipper MaryClaire Kiernan with senior crew Julia Fuller in their A dinghy, and junior skipper Molly Pleskus with sophomore crew Sabrina Van Mell in their B dinghy.

The two teams combined to post finishes totaling to 277. The A's were seventh in the division with a 148 score, while the B's were eighth in their division at 129. The 277 total was 12 behind seventh-place Brown (265) and 13 ahead of ninth-place Stanford (290). Yale won the regatta with a 95-87-182 scoring line.

The two divisions included 15 races apiece. Tufts' A's were second in the ninth race and third in the fourth and fifth starts. In B's, Pleskus and Van Mell won the second race and were the runner-up in the first, 14th and 15th starts.

The Jumbo women's team competes at Boston University's President Trophy next weekend (Apr. 15-16).
