Jumbos 2nd in B Division at Women's Sailing President's Trophy

Leyla Senocak skippered Tufts to second in B division

BOSTON – The annual President's Trophy hosted by Boston University was limited to a one-day regatta due to poor weather on Sunday and the Jumbo women's sailing team placed ninth of 15 teams.

Final scores were taken from the six races competed in two divisions on Saturday. Tufts was second in B division with a 28 score and 12th in A's with a 66 score for a 94 total. They were six behind eighth-place Eckerd (88) and one in front of 10th-place Yale. Vermont won the regatta with a 28-35-63 scores.

The B team of freshman skipper Leyla Senocak with junior crew Kahler Newsham was just three out of first place in their division with their 28 score behind only Northeastern's 25. The Jumbo pair were second in the first race and third in the third.

For A's, sophomore Charlotte Lenz skippered with classmate Elena Gonick as crew. As the wind really got strong at the end, Lenz and Gonick won their last race.

Tufts' women's teams split to various regattas over the weekend, with the lead team going to the co-ed Oberg at MIT/Northeastern as a second Tufts team. Other women's teams were at the Thompson or took the weekend off.

Saturday on the Charles was overcast and with wind from the east building over the day to about 15 mph by the final set.
