MEDFORD - After making key contributions to two victories by the Jumbos on Saturday, freshman Rachel Windreich has been selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Squash Player of the Week today.
Coming in at #19 in the College Squash Association rankings released on December 1, the Jumbos earned a 9-0 victory against #20 William Smith College and a 5-4 conference win over 21st-ranked Wesleyan University in their final matches of the fall semester. With the double-header sweep, first-year head coach Joe Raho's team improved to 6-1 overall heading into the semester break.
Windreich played in the #4 position for both matches. Against William Smith, she lost just six total points while recording an 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 win over Herons senior Anna Worcester. Versus Wesleyan, which was hosting the day's matches, Windreich came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Cardinals sophomore Josie Russ 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7. Windreich's victory clinched the 5-4 team win for the Jumbos.
From Greenwich, Connecticut and Greenwich Academy, Windreich hasn't lost a match since the Jumbos' opener versus Amherst. She has a 6-1 record playing at #4 thus far. In addition to losing just six points in her William Smith match, she gave up just nine points in a win against Boston College earlier this year.
This is the first NESCAC weekly honor received by a Jumbo since Hannah Burns was honored during the 2015-16 season on February 8.
