CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University women's tennis team won 7-2 at MIT on Thursday for its first victory of the 2011-12 season. The match was played indoors due to rain in Greater Boston.
The Jumbos went up 3-0 after doubles without much of a challenge. In singles, Katz was the first to come off after a solid 6-3, 6-1 victory over MIT's Lauren Quisenberry, the Engineers' returning #1 and #20 ranked nationally. Gann would clinch the deciding match at #4 singles, scoring the Jumbos' fifth point with a three-set win. That was one of three three-set matches in singles, with two won by Jumbos. Kimmel also had a victory at #6, allowing just four games.
