Seventh-ranked Women's Tennis Opens Spring Schedule With 9-0 Win Against Washington College

Sophomore Rebecca Kimmel had easy wins in doubles and singles for Tufts

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Tufts University women's tennis team did not lose a set while opening the 2012 spring portion of their schedule with a 9-0 win against Washington College at the Schottland Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.

Among their three doubles wins, junior captain Lindsay Katz (Baltimore, MD) and sophomore Eliza Flynn (Hamilton, MA) had to work hardest for their's at #1, finishing ahead 9-7. Both the #2 duo of sophomore Samantha Gann (Massapequa, NY) with junior Janice Lam (San Francisco, CA) and the #3 pair of first-year Sophie Schonfeld (Washington, DC) with sophomore Rebecca Kimmel (Longmeadow, MA) were easy winners.

Likewise in singles, Katz had to work extra for her win at #1 though the Jumbos had already clinched the match. Lam did not lose a game in the #5 match, nor did senior Nathalie Schils (Shaker Heights, OH) at #6. Flynn, Gann and Kimmel also had smooth wins.

The Jumbos improved to 2-1 overall for 2011-12 with the victory. It was the first loss for Washington College (6-1).

Tufts will now participate in the annual Fab Five Tournament at Washington and Lee with matches against Johns Hopkins on Tuesday at noon and against Washington and Lee on Thursday at 4 pm.
