MEDFORD - Both Tufts University tennis teams and 18 student-athletes from the two teams combined were recently presented with Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) academic honors.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is given to all ITA programs that have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Head coach Kate Bayard's women's tennis team has a 3.47 team grade point average after achieving a 3.557 mark for the 2017 spring semester. The men's tennis team, coached by Karl Gregor, has a 3.484 team GPA after posting a 3.639 mark for the spring.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, players must be a varsity letter winner with a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. They must also have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Ten members of the Jumbo women's team met this criteria - Jacqueline Baum, Eliza Brown, Conner Calabro, Hannah Conroy, Chelsea Hayashi, Lauren Louks, Alexa Meltzer, Zoe Miller, Chelsea Ofori-Darko and Otilia Popa.
For the men's team, Kevin Kelly, Danny Coran, Jack Friend, Justin Brogan, Jason Scanlon, Ben Battle, Ethan Bershtein and Ben Biswas were honored.
