Allen Second, Jones Fourth to Highlight Women's Track & Field's 10th Place at NCAA Championships

CLAREMONT, CA - Junior Kelly Allen (Norton, MA) was a runner-up and senior Nakeisha Jones (Boston, MA) placed fourth to lead the Tufts women's outdoor track & field team to 10th place at the 2012 NCAA Championships Thursday through Saturday at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

Allen earned the third All-American honor of her career in the discus throw on Thursday with a 150'5" (45.85m) launch to finish second behind Aubree Jones from Mount Union, who had a 153'10 (46.88m) to win the national title. Allen had finished fourth at both of the previous NCAA Outdoor meets that she qualified for in 2010 and 2011.

On Saturday, Jones capped her outstanding career with a fourth-place effort in the triple jump. Her 39'9 3/4" (12.13m) for fourth was her fifth top-four finish at the NCAA Outdoor and Indoor meets combined during her career. The All-American performance was the eighth of her career, as she finished four for four in earning the national honor at both the Indoors and Outdoors.

Also on Saturday, sophomore Jana Hieber (Goffstown, NH) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:01.02 time. It is her first NCAA Outdoor All-American performance, and second overall. She had qualifed for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles by recording a 1:01.25 time on Thursday. She was fifth in the preliminaries, from which nine advanced to the final.

Senior Anya Price (Natick, MA) also ran on Thursday, finishing 20th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with an 11:22.23 time. She was not one of the 14 qualfiers to move on to the final.

In Friday's events at the NCAA meet, junior Sabienne Brutus (Brooklyn, NY) and Allen were in the hammer throw field. Brutus took 10th with 165'7" (50.48m) distance. Allen placed 17th with a 154'9" (47.16m) mark.

Senior Heather Theiss (North Woodmere, NY) tied for 18th in the pole vault on Saturday. Her best was an 11'1 3/4" (3.4m).

With the 18 points scored by Allen, Jones and Hieber, Tufts tied for 10th at the NCAA meet.
