Tufts Women's Foursome Runs Top Early-Season Times at BU

Brittany Bowman's 5,000 time is fourth-best in DIII early in the season

BOSTON - The 2016-17 Tufts University women's indoor track & field team started the new year by sending four runners to the BU Season Opener on Saturday. All four posted nationally-ranked times in distance events.

Junior Brittany Bowman led the way with a 17:10.94 finish in the 5,000 meters on BU's banked track. That converts to a 17:18.88 time that is ranked fourth among NCAA Division III competitors early in the indoor season. Bowman was 15th of 22 in the race.

Head coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos had three runners in the 5,000 overall. Senior Kelly Fahey timed 17:52.99, converted to an 18:01.26 which is #13 nationally. Senior Lindsay Atkeson is ranked 29th in DIII with her 18:34.75 / 18:43.34 converted. Fahey and Atkeson were 18th and 20th at BU, respectively.

Senior co-captain Samantha Cox was entered in the 3,000 meters at BU. She posted a 10:28.06 time that converted to a 10:33.47 that is ranked 11th in the nation. She was 16th out of 32 in the race.

The Jumbos will open their indoor season in full at home in the Tufts Invitational on January 14.
