Women's Track & Field Posts Six Season-Bests at Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD - A strong effort in the 4x4 was one of six season-best marks posted by the Tufts University women's indoor track & field team at the annual Cupid Challenge held at the Gantcher Center today.

The Tufts foursome of freshman Rhemi Toth, senior co-captain Rita Donohoe, junior Julia Prusaczyk and freshman Julia Gake combined on a 4:06.28 time that won a small three-team race at the meet. It was the best Jumbo time in the event this year and gave Tufts two national top 40 marks in the 4x4. Today's group ranks #33 and a Donohoe, Gake, senior Hannah Loss and freshman Nehale Kunkle-Read relay timed 4:06.47 on January 14 for the #36 national time.

Sophomore Brita Dawson snuck into the national top 50 with her 17'3 1/4" (5.46m) best in the long jump today. It placed third at the meet and was #46 in Division III as of 6 pm Saturday night. The distance was the best by a Jumbo this season in the LJ.

In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Sydney Ladner had Tufts' best time of 2017 by placing fourth in 8.22 seconds. She also matched her team season-best mark of 9'6 1/4" (2.90m) clearance in the pole vault.

Senior co-captain Samantha Cox also had a team season-best mark of 3:01.44 for third place in the 1,000 meter run. Freshman Rebecca Glass launched a 32'9" (9.98m) triple jump to record another Jumbo-best for the indoor season. She was also third in the event.

Sophomore Olivia Barnett had a 5:11.22 mile run which is ranked 35th in Division III and took fourth place at the meet. Sophomore Kylene DeSmith posted a strong time of 9.54 seconds for second place in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, but did not finish in the final.

Gake was the runner-up in the 600 meters with a 1:38.99 time. Junior Jennifer Sherwill was third out of 18 in the shot put with a 35'0 1/2" (10.68m) best heave.

Head coach Kristen Morwick's Jumbos have meets at Boston University and MIT next weekend (Feb. 10-11).
