Women's Track DMR Runs #2 National Time at BU Early Saturday

Senior Rita Donohoe ran the 400 leg of the DMR for Tufts

BOSTON - The Tufts University women's indoor track & field team's distance medley relay (DMR) ran an 11:59.18 at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday morning, a time that converts to the second-best in the nation at the moment.

The Tufts foursome was senior co-captain Samantha Cox, senior co-captain Rita Donohoe, freshman Julia Gake and junior Brittany Bowman. Their 11:59.18 is converted due to the banked track at BU. The new time will be roughly 12:07, which is #2 in the nation for Division III as of 1:30 pm Saturday. The time ranks eighth on the all-time indoor list at Tufts. The Jumbos won back-to-back DMR NCAA Outdoor titles in 2008 and 2009.

This morning's Jumbo relay defeated several Division I and II two teams in the race. Running in the first of two sections, Tufts' time was fourth out of 12. The Jumbos were fourth out of 25 in the race overall. Tufts was first among Division III teams in the race. This was the first DMR run by the Jumbos this season.

Bowman, who anchored today's DMR, now has two top 10 national rankings and nearly another for the 2017 indoor season. Her 17:18.88 converted in the 5K from the BU Season Opener on December 3 is ranked #8 in D3. She also has the 11th-best mark in the 3,000 meters with a 9:55.09 time at home on January 28.

This morning's DMR concluded Tufts' participation at the BU meet. The Jumbos are also in action at the MIT Invitational on Saturday.
