Sherwill Wins Discus Throw at Trinity Women's Track & Field Invitational

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Jennifer Sherwill of the Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team won the discus throw as the Jumbos finished their 2017 regular season at the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday.

Tufts starts the championship season next Saturday at the New England Small College Athletic Conference meet at Bowdoin College. Several Jumbos rested this weekend in anticipation of the conference championship, which is always the most important team meet on the outdoor schedule.

Sherwill threw 133'7" (40.71m) to win the discus throw by over seven feet. Second-place Emily Senatore from Connecticut College came in at 126'4" (38.52m). Sherwill's mark is ranked among the national top 40. She also had a career-best 130'0" (39.62m) for second place in the hammer throw and was third in the shot put (37'1 1/4" - 11.31m).

Senior Alice Wasserman was second out of 39 runners in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:54.17 finish. Sophomore Trish Blumeris had a pair of top-four finishes in the jumps. She was second in the triple at 32'7 3/4" (9.95m), and tied for fourth in the LJ with a 15'2 1/4" (4.63m) best. Freshman Nehalem Kunkle-Read had a second-place time in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.21). She was also fifth in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 16.40 seconds.

The Jumbos posted the second-place time of 50.56 seconds in the 100-meter relay as freshman Franny Kiles, senior co-captain Rita Donohoe, freshman Raquel Whiting and freshman Alina Strileckis combined.

Strileckis also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.12) and had a PR in the 200 meters (27.26). Junior Sara Stokesbury (2:20.31) and freshman Lauren Diaz (2:23.51) placed 3-4 in the 800.

In the distance events, sophomore Caitlin Porrazzo was first for the Jumbos and fifh overall in the 5,000 meter run (18:54.33). Sophomore Kelsey Tierney was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase recording a 12:08.36 time.

The meet did not include team scoring.
