Women's Track & Field Gets Started at New England Division III Championships

Caitlin Porrazzo just missed scoring in the 10K

WILLIAMSTOWN - The Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team competed in the long jump and 10,000 meter run on its first day at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Williams College on Friday.

The Jumbos did not score any team points on Friday. With no score, they are tied for 14th place heading into the bulk of the meet on Saturday.

The 10K race saw two Jumbos post career-best times. Sophomore Caitlin Porrazzo was the top Tufts finisher and just missed scoring in ninth place overall. Her 39:25.81 time was the first sub-40 minute time of her career. Junior Franchesca Burgos also hit a career-best time of 40:35.46 in the 10K. She was 15th in the race. Freshman Jennifer Jackson also competed in the 10K for Tufts and was 18th (41:26.29).

Sophomore Brita Dawson, coming off an All-NESCAC performance last week, was 10th in the long jump today. She went 16'9 1/4" (5.11m).

The Jumbos did not have entries in the heptathlon, hammer throw, 100 meter dash preliminaries and 100-meter hurdles preliminaries that were held today.

Saturday action begins at 10 a.m. in the field events and 10:30 a.m. in the track events at Williams College.
