Atkeson, Perkins Run Career-Bests in Steeplechase for Women's Track & Field at NEICAAA's

Lindsay Atkeson ran a national top 40 time in the steeplechase

WILLIAMSTOWN - Senior Lindsay Atkeson and sophomore Sarah Perkins both had strong performances in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the Tufts University women's outdoor track & field team at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships on Saturday at Williams College.

Atkeson with an 11:14.54 time and Perkins in 11:42.60 both ran career-best marks in the event. Atkeson was 13th in the race with a time that is ranked #37 nationally. Perkins finished 25th.

The Jumbo 4x400-meters relay matched Atkeson for the best Tufts finish of the day by placing 13th. The relay was junior Annalisa DeBari, freshman Julia Gake, senior co-captain Rita Donohoe and freshman Nehalem Kunkle-Read. They combined on a 4:03.54 time.

Junior thrower Jennifer Sherwill competed in two events on Saturday. She was 14th in the discus throw with a best mark of 120'8" (36.78m). In the shot put, Sherwill heaved the ball 37'1 1/4" (11.31m) for 20th place.

Senior co-captain Samantha Cox was also in action for Tufts at the NEICAAA meet on Saturday, running 4:42.37 in the 1,500 meters for 20th place.

The Jumbos did not score any team points on Saturday and finished tied for 34th overall at the competition.

Tufts has the Last Chance Qualifier hosted by MIT coming up next Thursday and Friday (May 18-19). It will be the final opportunity for Jumbos to record NCAA qualifying marks. The national championship meet is on May 25-27 in Geneva, Ohio.
