The Tufts University Department of Athletics has hired Matt Callahan as Assistant Director of Recreation & Club Sports. The position will be dedicated solely to the department's recreational offerings and will oversee Club Sports, Intramurals, Physical Education, Mini-courses and the F.I.T. Pre-orientation Program.
Callahan joins the Jumbos from Brandeis University, where he served as the Club Sports and Events Coordinator, as well as the Facilities, Events and Intramurals Coordinator for the past five years. While at Brandeis, he oversaw the Judges’ 19 Club Sports, and served as the game-day operations manager for 14 of Brandeis’ varsity sports.
Also a Brandeis graduate, Callahan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2012, then earned a Master's in Sports Leadership from Northeastern University in 2013. While at Brandeis, he won the Morry Stein Award of Valor, presented to a student-athlete persons who, through their unsolicited efforts, made a significant and unique contribution to the sports program at Brandeis.
"We feel that Matt will be a great fit at Tufts and will work extremely well with our students and staff," said Alexis Mastronardi, the Senior Associate Athletic Director who chaired the search committee.
"I am very excited to get started at Tufts," Callahan said. "This position is going to give me the opportunity to work with many different sports, clubs, and other student organizations that I haven’t worked with in the past."
Callahan is originally from Westford, Mass.
