Matt Whalen, previously the Associate Director of Sports Medicine at Harvard University, was hired recently as the new Director of Sports Medicine / Head Athletic Trainer at Tufts University. Having worked in the Sports Medicine Department at Harvard University for the past nine years (2010-19), Whalen was an Athletic Trainer for his first six years with the Crimson and was then promoted to Associate Director of Sports Medicine and served in this role for the past three years. Prior to Harvard, Whalen worked for five years (2005-10) as an assistant athletic trainer at Babson College. He also spent a year as an athletic trainer at Boston College in 2004-05. Whalen has been a preceptor for the athletic training education programs for Lasell, Salem State University, Bridgewater State University, and Boston University since 2005. Whalen earned a master's degree in health promotion and exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2007. He received a bachelor's degree in physical education, with a concentration in athletic training, from Bridgewater State College in 2004.
