Bowdoin would commit two errors on bunts in the bottom of the ninth leading to the Jumbo win. Tufts freshman 1B Peter DeMaria led off with a walk and pinch-runner Miles Reid went to second on Bowdoin's first error during a sacrifice attempt by Tufts sophomore DH Kyle Cortese. When Tufts junior 3B JP Knight followed with another bunt to the left side, the throw sailed over first base down the right-field line scoring both Reid and Cortese.
Tufts had trailed 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh and scored twice on one hit, two walks and two hit-by-pitches. After loading the bases, the first run scored when Cortese was hit by a pitch. The tying run came home when junior RF Ryan Day walked. The Jumbos left the bases loaded as Bowdoin junior Colby Lewis got a fly-ball out to end the inning.
The Polar Bears took their 5-3 lead by scoring four times in the fifth. Freshman LF Austin Zakow doubled home a run, sophomore RF James McCarthy hit a two-run double and Mah brought home a run with a ground out.
Bowdoin led 1-0 in the top of the second when senior Jack Wilhoite singled, stole second and eventually scored on a walk by Mah. Tufts tied it in the bottom of the inning as Cortese led off with a single to center and scored on a balk.
Tufts added two in the third to lead 3-1. They hit four consecutive singles in the inning, with senior LF Casey Santos-Ocampo, DeMaria and Cortese (rbi) producing the first run. Another single by Knight and a double-play ball brought in the second run.
Cortese finished 3 for 3 with two rbis and two runs for Tufts (16-5, 3-1 NESCAC East). Santos-Ocampo went 2 for 3 with a run. Freshman reliever Michael Volgende earned his third win for Tufts. He entered and struck out a Bowdoin batter with runners on first and second to end the top of the eighth.
