Both teams traded baskets early, and with a three-point lead about six minutes into the half the Bobcats got back-to-back jumpers from Kenny Aruwajoye to take a seven-point lead just about eight minutes into the half. The Jumbos responded with a three from sophomore Will Brady and then another from junior captain Eric Savage to cut the lead to one with 11:35 left in the first.
But, the Bobcats went on a roll, getting a jumper and then two free throws from Nick Lynch. That was followed by a three from Tom Coyne and then Lynch tipped in a missed layup from Jeff Spellman to give the Bobcats a ten-point lead with 9:09 remaining.
The Bobcats held on to that lead for most of the rest of the first half. With Bates up by nine with 1:45 left, sophomore Brennan Morris made a three for the Jumbos and then freshman Tyler Aronson added a jumper to bring them within four. Bates would take a 40-36 advantage into the break.
The Jumbos were ready to go at the start of the second half, opening play with a layup from sophomore Luke Rogers and then another from Savage to tie the game at 40 just 30 seconds into the second half. Rogers then made two free throws and Savage added a layup to give Tufts a four-point advantage just two minutes into play.
Bates answered with a layup and made free throw from Jeff Spellman and then Lynch tipped another in to give the Bobcats the advantage again. Spellman added a jumper, a layup and a free throw to increase the lead to six, 50-44, with 14:55 on the clock. Rogers got the Jumbos back in action with a layup, and after a Bates layup Brady made another three for the Jumbos. Rogers went to charity stripe and made both to bring Tufts within one again, 52-51, with 13:15 to go.
But, the Bobcats then scored ten unanswered to increase their lead to 11 about halfway through the second half. Trailing by 11 with 6:28 to go the Jumbos got back in the game with four free throws and a layup from Rogers. Sophomore Max Oppenheim then made one of two at the line, to bring the Jumbos within four, 61-55, with 4:44 left in the game. But, that's as close as the Jumbos would get, and Bates picked up a 76-65 win.
Rogers finished with 18 points and ten rebounds. Savage added 14 points and six rebounds with five assists. Morris turned in ten points, three boards and three assists. Brady added 12 off the bench for the Jumbos, all coming from behind the arc. He also added six rebounds and four assists.
