Soccer Teams Hosting Special Events on Homecoming

MEDFORD – The Tufts University men's and women's soccer teams are both hosting special events on Homecoming Day this coming Saturday (Oct. 19).

Tufts is celebrating 40 Years of Women's Soccer with a full day of events. The women's soccer program was started in 1979 has played in two NCAA Final Fours – including hosting and finishing as the national runner-up in 2001. Head coaches Bill Gehling (1979-98) and Martha Whiting (1999-present) have led the Jumbo program to more than 350 victories.

The event will begin with an Alumnae Game at 10 am on Field F adjacent to Bello Field. That will be followed by the 2019 Jumbos hosting Connecticut College in NESCAC action at Kraft Field starting at noon. The game will feature a special halftime ceremony for the 40th anniversary of the program. A post-game Family / Alumnae Tailgate will follow the game leading up to an Evening Social from 4 to 7 pm at the Remus Sculpture Court in Aidekan Arts Center on campus.

The men's team has a Homecoming Day full of events planned around celebrating the program's three NCAA Championships. Head coach Josh Shapiro has guided the Jumbos to national titles in three of the last five seasons. Tufts won in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

The festivities will start with an Alumni Game at Bello Field at 10 am. A Pregame Tailgate will be held prior to the game just outside of Bello Field starting at 12:30 pm. Then the Jumbos will take on Connecticut College in a NESCAC game on Bello at 2:30 pm. After the game, a banquet celebrating the national championship teams will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Steve Tisch Sports and Fitness Center.
