Men's Soccer's Tasker, Rojas Receive 2019 Academic All-District® Team Recognition

MEDFORD – Senior co-captain Gavin Tasker and senior Brett Rojas of the Tufts University men's soccer team both earned 2019 Academic All-District® Team recognition which was announced on Thursday.

Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic AllAmerica® honorees will be announced in early December.

Tasker and Rojas are two of the 11 student-athletes selected to the Division III District 1 team, which features players from Massachusetts and Maine. Tufts has two of the three New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) recipients on the list.

Leading offensive contributors to the Jumbos, Tasker and Rojas are part of a Jumbo squad that is ranked fifth nationally and earned the #2 seed during the NESCAC season. Both have started all 16 games for the Jumbos, with Rojas tallying four goals and three assists for 11 points and Tasker totaling three goals with five assists for 11 points. Both have been members of Tufts NCAA Championship teams in 2016 and 2018, as well as the 2017 NESCAC championship squad. The team is likely to earn another NCAA berth this fall with their 12-2-2 record under head coach Josh Shapiro.

Tasker was a D3soccer.com first team All-American in 2018, as well as receiving United Soccer Coaches first team All-New England and NESCAC All-Conference first team recognition for 2018. For his classwork, Tasker was named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American in '18 and is a three-time Academic All-NESCAC recipient (2017-19). He double-majors in Quantitative Economics and Environmental Science with a 3.70 grade point average.

Rojas was a 2018 NESCAC All-Conference second team member when he finished second in the league with nine assists (along with two goals). Academically, he has achieved Dean's List in all semesters and is a three-time NESCAC All-Academic Team member (2017-19) as an economics major with a 3.74 gpa. In addition to his strong athletic and academic achievements, Rojas is also President of the Tufts University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

This is the second straight year that Tasker has earned the Academic All-District® Team honor. Including 2017 recipients Dexter Eichhorst and Kevin Halliday, Tufts Men's Soccer has now been recognized five times by the Academic All-District® program in the last three seasons.
