20 Individuals, Men's & Women's Swimming Teams Receive CSCAA Academic Awards

MEDFORD – The Tufts University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams were recently recognized for their academic achievements by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA).

Both the Tufts men’s and women’s programs earned Scholar All-America team recognition for the spring 2019 semester. The CSCAA recognizes teams achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the semester. Both Jumbo teams were well over that requirement.

The CSCAA also named individual swimmers and divers to Scholar All-America Teams for the 2018-19 season. The award recognizes students that achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable mention teams were also named, with students who similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at an NCAA Regional or Zone Diving qualifier.

These are the CSCAA’s highest honors, recognizing swimmers and divers who have achieved excellence in the pool and in the classroom.

The 11 individuals earning the honor for the men’s team with their majors were JJ Batt / biomedical engineering, Costa Camerano / psychology, Tommy Gillespie (HM) / English, Roger Gu / biomedical engineering, Tar Tar Jarusinchai / undeclared, Joseph Kim (HM) / undeclared, John Koster / chemical engineering, John Lalime (HM) / history and political science, Nathan Mitchell / biology, Tyler Tatro / environmental engineering, and Nate Tingen / cognitive and brain sciences.

For the women, the nine individuals who were recognized are Amber Chong (HM) / educational psychology, Emma Donchi / international relations, Colleen Doolan / biology and community health, Grace Goetcheus / biology and anthropology, Mary Hufziger / biology, Jeanette Khowong / undeclared, Lily Kurtz / cognitive brain science, Amy Socha / archaeology and applied physics and Hannah Spencer / undeclared.
