CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 14 Tufts University men's tennis team flexed its muscles on Monday, as the Jumbos defeated No. 24 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 9-0, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, California.

Gupte took care of business quickly in No. 1 singles, as he defeated junior Zane Navratil, 6-1, 6-3, and then Ali followed suit in No. 2 singles, dropping sophomore Jimmy Engelhart, 6-2, 6-1. Coran rattled off a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 3 singles against sophomore Rory Calabria.
Shaff posted a 6-3 victory in opening-set action, and then cruised to a straight-set triumph over junior Matt Zurowski with a 6-1 triumph in the second set during No. 4 singles.
The Jumbos have received strong contributions early in the season from their first-year class, as freshman Nathan Niemiec dominated in No. 5 singles, defeating sophomore Brandon Dechter, 6-2, 6-1. In No. 6 singles, sophomore Ethan Chen emerged victorious in a back-and-forth match, as he defeated freshman Zach Wood, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8).
Junior Griffin Brockman and Gupte stood tall during No. 1 doubles action, outlasting Engelhart and Navratil, 8-1. Shaff and senior captain Ben Battle formed a formidable pair in No. 2 doubles, as the two athletes recorded an 8-4 win over Calabria and Wood.
Ali and Coran capped off the Jumbos' performances in No. 3 doubles, as they outperformed Zurowski and Dechter, 8-2.
The Jumbos will continue their busy week with a match on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against Chicago in Pomona, California. The squad will then square off against Colby on Wednesday at noon in Claremont, California.
