WIN OVER SALVE GIVES MEN'S TENNIS CLEAN SWEEP OF RHODE ISLAND OPPONENTS ON SUNDAY

Andrew McHugh had one of three 6-0, 6-0 wins for Tufts

BRISTOL, RI - The Tufts University men's tennis team completed a perfect opening day on Sunday with a 9-0 victory against Salve Regina in a match played at Roger Williams. The Jumbos had defeated Roger Williams earlier in the day 9-0, giving new head coach Jaime Kenney a pair of shutout wins in her first action with the team.

The Tufts #3 doubles pair of freshman Brian Tan (Orinda, CA) and junior Jeff Taylor (Framingham, MA) blanked their opponents to help the Jumbos sweep the doubles matches. On the second doubles court, sophomore Austin Blau (East Hills, NY) and senior tri-captain Morrie Bossen (Chicago, IL) won 8-2.

Singles play featured three shutout wins for Tufts. Sophomore Zach Ladwig (Chelmsford, MA) had a 6-0, 6-0 win in the #4 match, as did sophomore Jake Lazarus (Louisville, KY) at #5 and junior Andrew McHugh (Edgartown, MA) at #6.

Junior Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD), junior Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) and sophomore Matt Pataro (Coral Gables, FL) all had singles wins in both the Roger Williams and Salve Regina matches for Tufts.

The Jumbos plat at the ITA New England Championships hosted by Williams next weekend. The Seahawks travel to Stonehill for a Thursday match.
