MEN'S TENNIS FINISHES FALL PORTION OF 2011-12 SCHEDULE WITH 8-1 WIN AT BABSON

Sophomore Matt Pataro had one of two 6-0, 6-0 singles wins for Tufts

BABSON PARK - Visiting Tufts University won all three doubles matches and took five of six singles contests en route to an impressive 8-1 victory over host Babson College in non-conference men's tennis action at the Farwell Courts on Friday afternoon. With the win, Tufts remained perfect on the year at 3-0, while the Beavers capped off the fall portion of their season at 2-1.

The Jumbos opened with a sweep of doubles play, keyed by an 8-2 win by the combination of junior Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD) and senior Kai Victoria (Miami, FL) at number one. Senior Morrie Bossen (Chicago, IL) and sophomore Austin Blau (East Hills, NY) added an 8-4 win at two, and sophomores Zach Ladwig (Chelmsford, MA) and Matt Pataro (Coral Gables, FL) teamed up for an 8-1 triumph at three.

Junior Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) joined Blau, Pataro, Ladwig, and Bossen with straight-set victories in singles play for the visitors, as Tufts clinched the overall win with points at the bottom five positions. Babson picked up its lone victory of the day at number one, where freshman Connor DeFiore (Bloomfield Hills, MI) swept Lutz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

The Jumbos will resume the 2011-12 season in the spring.
