Jumbo Men's Tennis Dominates Frostburg State in Spring Break Opener, 9-0

Jeff Taylor was part of a shutout win in third doubles

HILTON HEAD, SC - In the first match of their spring break trip to Hilton Head, the Tufts men's tennis team posted an easy 9-0 victory against Frostburg State on Monday morning. The Jumbos breezed in straight sets for all nine matches.

Tufts took all three doubles matches while losing just three games. The #3 pair of juniors Jeff Taylor (Framingham, MA) and Andrew McHugh (Edgartown, MA) won 8-0. Senior co-captain Morrie Bossen (Chicago, IL) and junior Mark Westerfield (Menlo Park, CA) were 8-1 winners in the #1 match. Sophomore Matt Pataro (Coral Gables, FL) with senior co-captain Sam Laber (Cincinnati, OH) won 8-2 in the #2 spot.

The Jumbos lost only 14 games in 12 singles sets. Sophomore #2 Austin Blau (East Hills, NY) won 6-0 and 6-0. Pataro lost only one game in the fourth match. Junior Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) at #1 and sophomore Jake Lazarus (Louisville, KY) at #6 surrendered just two games in their matches.

Tufts plays a double-header on Monday, with a 4 pm match against Carleton following this victory.
