Tufts Men's Tennis Edged Again by College of Coastal Georgia, 5-4

Senior Morrie Bossen was part of a #2 doubles win

HILTON HEAD, SC - For the second straight match, the Tufts University men's tennis team was narrowly defeated 5-4 against the College of Coastal Georgia on Tuesday afternoon. The Jumbos had lost 5-4 on Monday against Carleton.

Tufts won two doubles matches and nearly swept the round. The #1 pair of juniors Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) and Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD) won 8-2. In second doubles, senior co-captain Morrie Bossen (Chicago, IL) with junior Mark Westerfield (Menlo Park, CA) had an 8-6 victory. The third match went to a tie-breaker, with Coastal Georgia winning 9-8 (4).

Three of the six singles matches went three sets, with the Mariners winning two. At #2 and #5, the Mariners pulled out victories. Jumbo sophomore Austin Blau (East Hills, NY) won in three on the third singles court after losing the opening set 6-4. He came back with 7-5 and 6-0 wins. Tufts senior co-captain Sam Laber (Cincinnati, OH) won at #4 when his opponent had to retire.

At #1, Louis Volclair topped Barad in two, and at the other end Malhar Mali won the sixth match in two, helping give the Mariners the come-from-behind victory. They improved to 6-9 overall.

The Jumbos (4-3 overall, 1-3 spring) are off on Wednesday before taking on the University of Chicago on Thursday at 11 am.
