|Freshman Brian Tan won 6-1, 6-0 in #4 singles
HILTON HEAD, SC - The Tufts men's tennis team closed its five-match spring break trip to Hilton Head with an 8-1 victory against Graceland University on Friday. The Jumbos won every match except first doubles and moved over .500 to a 5-4 record for the year.
Tufts started off by taking two of three in doubles. Using different line-ups than earlier in the week, junior Mark Westerfield (Menlo Park, CA) paired with senior co-captain Morrie Bossen (Chicago, IL) for an 8-0 win in the second match. The #3 Jumbo duo of sophomore Austin Blau (East Hills, NY) and freshman Brian Tan (Orinda, CA) won almost as easily, 8-1. Graceland's Manuel Lindekeit and Daniel Rosales defeated Jumbos Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD) and Matt Pataro (Coral Gables, FL) in a tie-breaker 9-8 (6).
Tufts had little trouble sweeping through the singles matches. Both Pataro and Tan lost just one game each in their #3 and #4 matches, respectively. Bossen was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at #6 and Lutz took a 6-2, 6-3 final at #1.
The Jumbos will open their home and NESCAC season on Thursday with a 4 pm match against Connecticut College.
