Tufts Men's Tennis Suffers 8-1 NESCAC Loss at Trinity College on Thursday

Co-captain Morrie Bossen was part of Tufts' only win at #3 doubles

HARTFORD, CT - In a match that was tighter than the final score indicated, the Tufts men's tennis team fell 8-1 at Trinity College in NESCAC action on Thursday afternoon.

Tufts had match point to win doubles 2-1, but could not capitalize. In singles, four of the matches went to three sets, but all were won by Trinity. The Jumbos dropped to an 8-8 record overall and 2-4 in NESCAC, while Trinity improved to 9-5 and 5-2.

Tufts won #3 doubles and Trinity took #2 doubles, both by 8-3 scores. In the #1 match, Jumbos Andrew Lutz (Baltimore, MD) and Matt Pataro (Coral Gables, FL) had match point, but Trinity's Anson McCook and Ned Mandel extended the match and eventually won 9-8 (2).

In singles, Jumbos Austin Blau (East Hills, NY) at #3 and Pataro at #5 both had 1-0 leads before their opponents rallied to win the second and third sets. Blau's match included two tie-breakers. Tufts junior #1 Ben Barad (San Rafael, CA) lost a 7-6 (5) second-set tie-breaker in a three-set loss to McCook. In the fourth match, Jumbo senior co-captain Sam Laber (Cincinnati, OH) lost in three to Charles McConnell.

Coach Jaime Kenney's Jumbos host Brandeis on Monday afternoon at Voute Courts. Trinity hosts Amherst on Saturday at 1 pm.
