Women's Rowing Opens 2018-19 Schedule in Vermont on Sunday

Libby Lichter was Tufts' top finisher in the singles event

PUTNEY, Vt. – Five members of the Tufts University women's rowing team traveled to Vermont for Sunday's season-opening Green Mountain Head.

Three Tufts rowers competed in a singles event and the other two raced in a doubles scull. A mix of school-affiliated rowers, rowing clubs and independent athletes made up the competition, including some of the sport's top competitors.

In the 1x 19-34 age bracket, junior Libby Lichter was the first of three Tufts finishers. Her time of 23:12 flat was 11th overall. The race was won by Genevra Stone, the 2016 Olympic silver medalist in single sculls and Tufts Medical School grad.

For the doubles race, the Tufts pair of sophomore Grace Duisberg and freshman Grace Anderson were 12th in their race with a 24:26.8 finish.

The three-mile race course for the Green Mountain Head goes 1.5 miles upstream, around two large orange buoys and then returns 1.5 miles to the finish (in the same place as the start).

Tufts' second fall event will be the Hadley Chase coming up in two weeks.
