CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University women's rowing team placed seventh in the Women's Collegiate Eights event to highlight their performance at the 54th Head of the Charles regatta on Sunday.
The Jumbos competed in four events overall, with three boats from the current team and an alumni boat in action.
Tufts had two varsity eight entries in the Collegiate Eights. The seventh-place eight included coxswain Jill Armenia, with Karen Dooley, Sarah Flower, Grace Duisberg, Lauren Drohosky, Miriam Weiss, Alicia Heia, Madeleine Clarke and Leslie Spencer. They timed 19:17.656 for the three-mile course. Tufts was two seconds behind sixth-place Wesleyan (19:15.840) and five seconds in front of eighth-place Mercyhurst (19:22.276). Bates College won the event, which featured a total of 28 teams, in 18:18.054.
Tufts' other eight in the race placed 14th with a 19:46.484 mark. That eight lined up with coxswain Gabby Borenstein and Amanda Downing, Libby Lichter, Bibi Lichauco, Camden Myles, Erin Dwyer, Polly Harrington, Jiana Schnabel and Sophie Bredenkamp.
The first Tufts entry of the day was an alumni boat that competed in the Director's Challenge Women's Quads. Tufts graduates Emma Conroy, Emma Peabody, Rachel Peterson and Caroline Ricard placed 23rd out of 35 in the event with a 21:05.558 finish.
The Jumbos conclude their fall rowing season at the Head of the Fish regatta in Saratoga Springs, New York next Saturday.
