Women's Rowing Among 4 Top 10 Teams in Action at Malden River Saturday

Erika Madrian was one of six Jumbo seniors honored today.

MALDEN – Four of the top eight teams in the USRowing / College Rowing Coaches Association Division III national poll raced against each other on Malden River Saturday.

Top-ranked Bates, the defending NCAA champion, fifth-ranked Wesleyan, seventh-ranked Tufts and eighth-ranked Wellesley faced off in first, second and third varsity eight competitions.

The Jumbos rowed against Bates in the semi-finals of each division, with the winner advancing to a championship race and the losing rowing in a consolation final.

In the first race of the day, the Jumbo first varsity eight measured itself well versus Bates as the Bobcats won 6:46.5 to 6:58.7. For the second varsity eight, the Bobcats edged Tufts 6:48.7 to 6:52.8. Bates' strong third varsity eight won 7:12.4 to the Jumbos' 7:37.5.

In the three consolation races, Tufts' 1V8 lost 6:54.8 to 7:15.3 against Wellesley, the 2V8 was also defeated by the Blue 7:08.2 to 7:10.6, while the Jumbo 3V8 lost to Wesleyan in a close race 7:28.3 to 7:31.9.

The Jumbos also had a fourth varsity eight in action as they dropped a 7:18.5 to 7:22.6 race versus Wellesley.

The varsity eight line-up for Tufts included coxswain Jordan Sclar, stroke Karen Dooley, 7 Miranda Finestone, 6 Miriam Weiss, 5 Lauren Drohosky, 4 Alicia Heia, 3 Laurel Haeger, 2 Madeleine Clarke and bow Grace Duisberg

Coxswain Gabby Borenstein, stroke Lindsay Naber, 7 Camden Myles, 6 Bibi Lichauco, 5 Grace Fabrycky, 4 Amanda Downing, 3 Polly Harrington, 2 Prairie Hammer and bow Libby Lichter were the Jumbos second varsity eight.

Front to back for the Tufts third eight was coxswain Jill Armenia, stroke Sophie Bredenkamp, 7 Sarah Flower, 6 Jiana Schnabel, 5 Sophia Carroll, 4 Abby Henne, 3 Danielle Kaden, 2 Nina Pittas and bow Gillian Mehigan

The Jumbos fourth boat featured coxswain Sarah Toms, stroke Erika Madrian, 7 Eve Devens, 6 Kathryn Luhrman, 5 Emma Worple, 4 Risa Williams, 3 Rachel Wagner, 2 Tina Feng and bow Leslie Spencer.

In these final home races of the spring season, the Jumbos also celebrated Seniors Day on Saturday. The seniors saluted were Drohosky, Finestone, Lichauco, Lichter, Madrian and Weiss.

Tufts heads to Worcester for its annual Brown Cup first varsity race versus WPI a week from Sunday. William Smith, Clark and Skidmore will also be there.
