NORTON - Wheaton College sophomore Cassey Muse (Candia, NH) recorded her second straight late game-winner in leading the nationally-ranked Lyons to a 1-0 victory over regionally-ranked Tufts University in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.

Extending its season-opening undefeated streak to nine games, Wheaton, which entered today having lost the last two meetings to the Jumbos, is 3-2 against Tufts since 2006.  Ranked 21st nationally and third in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the Lyons are 8-0-1.  Tied for 10th in the region, the Jumbos slip to 1-2-1.

Muse scored at 82:16, as she caught up to a perfectly-placed lead pass from junior Lindsey Cobb (Shrewsbury, MA), who posted her first collegiate point.  Running up to the ball on the right side of the box, Muse sent a right-footed shot past Tufts first year Kristin Wright (Austin, TX), who came off her line to challenge the play.

Wheaton first year goalkeeper Kerry Condon (Whitman, MA), who made a huge stop on Jumbo first-year Maeve Stewart (Palo Alto, CA) in the 60th minute, made seven saves for her second consecutive shutout.  The Lyons have four straight clean sheets and haven't been scored on in over 392 minutes.

For Tufts, Wright was credited with one second-half save in the loss, while sophomore Phoebe Hanley (Mamaroneck, NY) had two first-half stops.  The Jumbos held a 13-10 edge in shots, and the hosts took five of the game's eight corner kicks.

Tufts nearly made it a 1-0 game midway through the first half, but its goal off a corner was negated due to a Jumbo foul.  Midway through the second stanza, the visitors fired a long shot that was punched over the crossbar by Condon, as the first-year netminder registered six saves in the frame.

The Jumbos return to NESCAC play on Saturday (Sept. 25) against Wesleyan at noon on Kraft Field. The Lyons travel to Worcester on Saturday for a NEWMAC game at Clark University at 1:00 pm.
