Women's Tennis Advances 2 in Singles, 2 in Doubles at ITA Regional

Maggie Dorr advanced in both singles and doubles on Friday.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Tufts University women's tennis team had two singles players and a pair of doubles duos advance in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regoinals which started on Friday at Middlebury College.

Sophomore Maggie Dorr and freshman Mathilda Rigby will both play in the singles round of 16 on Saturday after winning a pair of matches Friday. Dorr and classmate Caroline Garrido along with Rigby and classmate Maddie Suk won opening doubles matches Friday.

Dorr and Garrido, the #1 seed in the doubles bracket, started the weekend with an 8-5 victory over Ana Hatfield and Isabel Cepeda from Brandeis. Tufts' Rigby-Suk pairing won 8-2 in their doubles match against Bowdoin's Julia Marks and Morgan Hall.

Dorr began singles play with an easy 6-0, 6-2 win against Veronica Fulgieri from Springfield. In the second round, Dorr won a third-set super tie-breaker to defeat MIT's Pam Duke 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.

Rigby breezed into the round of 16. She opened with a 6-1, 6-1 final against Julia Brogan from Trinity. In the second round Rigby was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Hatfield from Brandeis.

Saturday's schedule for the doubles second round and singles third round is weather dependent.

Also in singles on Friday sophomore Nicole Frankel and Suk had first-round victories before losing in the round of 32. Frankel eliminated MIT's Lara Rakoccevic 6-1, 6-3 and Suk posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wellesley's Michelle Shen.
