Women's Cross Country Places Third at the Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN - Tufts Women's Cross Country finished third out of 13 teams in their second contest of the season at the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday.

Natalie Bettez finished first overall with a total time of 22:06.9

The Jumbos finished with a score of 114 and a total time of 1:57:21 in the women's six-kilometer event. MIT won the event finishing with a score of 67 and a total time of 1:56:06. Williams edged the Jumbos for second by nine seconds recording a time of 1:57:12 and a score of 81.

Senior Natalie Bettez finished first overall for the second time this season clocking a time of 22:06.9 which was 10 seconds better than the second place finisher. Bettez improved her time from last year by 36.2 seconds. Senior Julia Noble clocked a total time of 23:27.8 which was good for 16th place and second on the team.

Freshman Danielle Page finished 21st overall in her second collegiate race clocking a time of 23:37.7. Fellow freshman Anna Slager placed 37th with a total time of 24:02.5. Senior Caitlin Porrazzo (24:06.6) and junior Jennifer Jackson (24:26.3) were also in the top 50 overall finishing 39th and 48th respectively. Sophomore Melissa Rowland (24:33.4) was the seventh Jumbo and placed 54th overall.

Ann Roberts, Nicole Kerrigan, Maura McCormick, and Cameron Rusin also competed for the Jumbos in the Purple Valley Classic.

Tufts will return to action Saturday in the Bowdoin Invitational.
