Two Jumbos in Top 10, Team 6th as Women's Cross Country Excels at All-New England Race

Sophomore Danielle Page was seventh overall in the New England race.

BOSTON – The Tufts University women's cross country team was first among Division III teams and sixth overall at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship raced at Franklin Park on Saturday.

Senior Sabrina Gornisiewicz and sophomore Danielle Page were sixth and seventh, respectively, to lead the Jumbos. Gornisiewicz was the top DIII finisher with a 17:55.1 time across 5,000 meters. Page was a split-second second behind her in 17:55.2.

The Jumbos scored 101 as a team for sixth overall. They defeated Yale and Northeastern among other Division I opponents. A total of 22 teams competed in the race. The University of New Hampshire won the New England title within a field featuring teams from Divisions I, II and III.

Sophomore Anna Slager scored third for Tufts with an 18:43.7 time that was 34th overall. Senior Rhemi Toth was the next Jumbo finisher in 53rd overall (19:08). The fifth and final scoring performance for Tufts came from junior Cameron Rusin (19:42.9) who was 84th.

Rounding out the top seven for Tufts was junior Johanna Ross (19:57.7) and senior Nicole Kerrigan (20:06).

The race, with 157 competitors, was won by New Hampshire's Shannon Murdock in a 17:36.7 time.

Tufts also entered the sub-varsity race and was fifth out of 15 teams. Freshman Lauren Pollak was seventh in that race with an 18:57.4 time among 157 racers.

The Jumbos run at the Connecticut College Invitational next Saturday.
