Tufts Golf Indoor Training Center

A very generous donor was inspired to support and fund Tufts' vision to turn two former squash courts into a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility for the Jumbo golf team.

The facility is located on the top floor of the Cousens Gymnasium complex.

The right side area was converted into a chipping and putting surface with two levels of artificial grass and six target holes. With a green speed and some subtle breaks very similar to the courses the team plays, this green will help with the team's putting and chipping accuracy and consistency. The left side of the new facility is outfitted with a state of the art golf simulator (GC Quad) and a hitting net highlighting five possible courses projected onto a large and durable screen.

The simulator tracks a variety of data factors such as swing speed, launch angle, ball speed and flight path which are critical to improving the players' performance. The simulator room is also outfitted with a large screen TV and comfortable furniture for the team.

A locker room which includes individual lockers for club and equipment storage was also added.

This facility provides an important outlet for the team during the off season, at times of academic priority when a trip to the golf course with a multi-hour practice is not feasible, at times of inclement weather and for recruiting visits.

"The importance of this new facility really can not be overstated," said Tufts Golf head coach George Pendergast. "Having access to a golf simulator at all is critical to the continued success of Tufts Golf. But to then obtain one of such high quality and scope gives Jumbo Golf a tremendous advantage."
