Box Score
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Jumbos had a 1-0 lead at halftime against
#18 Williams College, but the host Ephs scored three times in a
seven-minute span during the second half to take a 3-1 victory in a
NESCAC men's soccer match on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
In the only shot that Tufts would put on goal in the game,
freshman Kevin Maxham (Fairfield, CT) scored for
his first collegiate tally, unassisted at 18:25. Williams had 17
shots in the first half, but most were misfired as Tufts senior
keeper Pat Tonelli
(Anodver, MA) made three saves. The visitors took a 1-0
lead to the break.
Tufts held the 1-0 margin for 20 minutes into the second half,
before Williams got it together offensively in a hurry. Pierre
Meloty-Kapella scored first at 64:40 to tie the score at 1-1. Just
47 seconds later, Charles Romero scored to give Williams a 2-1
advantage. The third Williams goal came six minutes after that at
71:09, by Nick Pugliese, and the hosts suddenly had things well in
hand.
Williams finished the game with 31 shots and 10 corners, while
the Jumbos recorded five shots (all in the first half) and one
corner. Tonelli finished with 10 saves in goal. Than Finan and
Andrew Graham split the game in goal for Williams, with neither
making a save.
Tufts falls to 2-9-2 overall and 0-7-1 in NESCAC heading into
the last game of their season next Friday afternoon at Bowdoin.
Williams, second in the league heading into the day, is now 11-1-1
overall and 6-1-1 in NESCAC. The Ephs play at Middlebury next
Friday.
